Annual Meeting Luncheon Dec. 6

The Philadelphia Bar Association's Annual Meeting Luncheon, featuring inaugural remarks from incoming Chancellor John E. Savoth, of counsel to Saltz Mongeluzzi Barrett & Bendesky PC, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 12 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt at The Bellevue, Broad and Walnut streets.

YLD's Pipin' Hot Holiday Party at Smokin' Betty's Dec. 5

The YLD will also be running a holiday gift drive at the event to assist the People’s Emergency Center and the Support Center for Child Advocates this holiday. Temple-LEAP/YLD Mock Trial “Boot Camp” Dec. 3

The students then have the opportunity to break up into smaller groups to practice what they have just learned by working with pairs of young lawyers classrooms of five to ten students before re-convening to watch demonstrations of the skills they practiced performed by experienced lawyers, judges, and mock trialers. The YLD needs your help to make this year’s camp a success. Please contact Paul Kaufman at Paul.Kaufman2@usdoj.gov for more information or to volunteer as a lecturer or break-out session leader.

YLD Now Accepting Nominations for Peretta, Perry Awards; Deadline Dec. 21

The F. Sean Peretta Service Award is presented annually to an individual who has devoted substantial time to an innovative or non-traditional program that serves the community. Peretta was a private practitioner who died suddenly at age 31 who was a very involved community activist and a mentor to kids in his home neighborhood. He was viewed as a role model for African-American Youth.

The Craig M. Perry Service Award is presented annually to a young lawyer - 37 years old or younger or within the first three years of practice - who has devoted substantial time and energy to community-oriented activities, including, but not limited to, pro bono and charity work. Perry was a member of the YLD Executive Committee who suffered an untimely death. He was very involved in community service and active in student-related and other YLD programs.

Nominations should include the individual's name, address and a brief statement describing his or her qualifications. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Dec. 21. All nominations should be submitted to Dawn Petit at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market Street, 11th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or email to dpetit@philabar.org.

Public Interest Law Day CLE and 20th Anniversary Celebration Dec. 1

Delivering public interest law to poor and disadvantaged citizens is a job that is largely undertaken by the more than thirty public interest law organizations in the Philadelphia area, as well as the numerous volunteer pro bono attorneys. Public Interest Law Day is designed to assist these practitioners and their colleagues throughout Pennsylvania in continuing to provide high-quality legal services to this under-served population. In addition to attorneys in public interest practice, this course will be of interest to pro bono practitioners and private practice attorneys who are interested in learning more about public interest law and other timely issues affecting the pro bono community.

Planned by public interest lawyers for public interest lawyers, this program focuses on issues that are currently hot topics in the practice of public interest law.
