Andrew Hamilton Benefit Nov. 19

This year's Andrew Hamilton Benefit will be held on Saturday, November 19, from 7 PM to 11 PM, at the Samuel M.V. Hamilton building at 128 N. Broad Street. Tickets for YLD members are only $100 each, and include a cocktail reception, dinner and dancing. Proceeds from the event benefit the Bar Foundation's grantmaking, which funds more than 30 public interest legal organizations that provide vital legal services to residents of our community. 2011 Harvest for the Homeless Project a Success

An assortment of area lawyers and students from Temple and Villanova joined together to sort donated clothing and goods and distribute them directly to local homeless shelters on Saturday, November 5th at Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP. Thanks to all who helped make the 2011 YLD Harvest for the Homeless program a success!

The YLD will also be running a holiday gift drive at the event to assist the People’s Emergency Center and the Support Center for Child Advocates this holiday. Public Interest Law Day CLE and 20th Anniversary Celebration Dec. 1

Delivering public interest law to poor and disadvantaged citizens is a job that is largely undertaken by the more than thirty public interest law organizations in the Philadelphia area, as well as the numerous volunteer pro bono attorneys. Public Interest Law Day is designed to assist these practitioners and their colleagues throughout Pennsylvania in continuing to provide high-quality legal services to this under-served population. In addition to attorneys in public interest practice, this course will be of interest to pro bono practitioners and private practice attorneys who are interested in learning more about public interest law and other timely issues affecting the pro bono community.

Planned by public interest lawyers for public interest lawyers, this program focuses on issues that are currently hot topics in the practice of public interest law.

JBL Symposium: Ongoing Implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act Nov. 18

We expect our Symposium to provide an insightful and thoughtful look into what has frequently been described as one of the most sweeping regulatory reforms since the Great Depression, by focusing on three broad themes:
The Project of Consumer Protection
The Logic of Regulatory Reform and Statutory Interpretation
Dodd-Frank and the Home Mortgage Sector

This program has been approved for 6.5 hours of substantive law credit and 0 hours of ethics credit for Pennsylvania lawyers. CLE credit can be arranged for other jurisdictions as well. CLE credits are free for University of Pennsylvania faculty and staff. CLE credits will cost $25 for public sector attorneys and $10 per credit hour for all others (e.g., $60 for a six hour program).

Temple-LEAP/YLD Mock Trial “Boot Camp” Dec. 3

The students then have the opportunity to break up into smaller groups to practice what they have just learned by working with pairs of young lawyers classrooms of five to ten students before re-convening to watch demonstrations of the skills they practiced performed by experienced lawyers, judges, and mock trialers.
