Judges Needed for Quaker Classic Mock Trial Event
Judges are needed for the 11th annual Quaker Classic Tournament on Nov. 9-10, sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania's Mock Trial organization.
The tournament is one of the nation's most widely recognized mock trial competitions and will be held on Penn's campus. Elite college teams from across the country will compete in this tournament, and Penn Mock Trial is searching for attorneys and law students to volunteer as either Presiding Judges (those who rule on the law objectively) and Scoring Judges (those who assign points based on competitors' performances) for one or more rounds during the tournament.
Each round will proceed like a real trial; two teams, one prosecution and one defense, will each present an opening statement, direct and cross examinations, and a closing argument. Trials are limited to three hours. Both individual and team awards are given based on performance during the tournament.
Please note that breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided on both days, courtesy of Penn Mock Trial.
No previous Mock Trial experience is necessary. During each Judges' Meeting, there will be a short orientation to review the rules for the tournament. There is no limit to how many rounds you may judge, nor is there any specific order to the rounds in which you may participate. Receiving feedback and commentary from experienced law professionals as yourself allows Mock Trial competitors an invaluable opportunity to learn from your knowledge of the law, the Rules of Evidence, and courtroom demeanor. The reviews you provide will prove both formative and invaluable in each competitor's future in Mock Trial, and we hope it will prove rewarding for you as well.
Each member of Penn Mock Trial hopes that you may find time in your schedule to lend us your experience in the legal field throughout this weekend in November. Please contact either Drisana Hughes, the Tournament Director of this year's Quaker Classic, at firstname.lastname@example.org
if you would like to participate. Please specify which rounds you will be able to attend, and which type of judge (either Presiding or Scoring) you prefer to be.
