Brandeis Law Society Seeks Fellowship Applicants

The Brandeis Law Society is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Brandeis Fellowship Program, which will provide two 2011 and 2012 law school graduates the opportunity to gain practical experience while assisting in providing legal services to needy Philadelphians. We also have limited placement of interested Fellows with judges of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.

Under the supervision of Jennifer Coatsworth of Margolis Edelstein and Derek Braslow, Esquire of Pogust Braslow & Milrood, Fellows will work on civil matters through Philadelphia VIP, an organization that promotes pro bono legal services in our community.

The Brandeis Fellowship Program is designed to provide recent 2011 and 2012 law school graduates who have not obtained full-time employment with the opportunity to interview clients, draft pleadings, familiarize themselves with relevant rules of practice, and participate in representing clients in court.

Fellows will be assigned a modest caseload, and will be expected to commit at least two days per week to the program while seeking full-time employment. Fellows will be expected to follow through with their cases, even when they obtain full-time employment.

We anticipate that Fellows will work on landlord/tenant and personal injury defense matters, although Fellows may be involved in other matters as well.

The Fellows Program is open to all Brandeis Law Society members. The Society is open to all lawyers, regardless of faith. More information and membership application at brandeislawsociety.org.

The Fellowship will begin in October 2012 and is unpaid. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resumé, law school transcript and brief writing sample to Felix Yelin at felix.yelin@courts.phila.gov with the subject "Brandeis Fellowship Application" by Friday, Sept. 7.
