Please join the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association and our co-hosts Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania, Barristers' Association of Philadelphia, Hispanic Bar Association and South Asian Bar Association as we honor five outstanding local law students at our eighth annual Diversity Reception on Thursday, June 13. The scholarship recipients are Tarik Brooks, Rutgers Camden School of Law; Chintan Desai, Rutgers Camden School of Law; Kenisha Marks, Temple University Beasley School of Law; Renata Sobral, Temple University Beasley School of Law; and Rebecca Song, Temple University Beasley School of Law.

WLD Jazz in June Scholarship Brunch June 16

The Philadelphia Chapter of the National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division will hold its Jazz in June Scholarship Brunch and Silent Auction on Sunday, June 16 at Bala Golf Club. At the brunch, the Hon. Doris May Harris Image Award will be presented to Judge Renee Cardwell Hughes, CEO, American Red Cross of Southeastern PA. The WLD will also honor Scott W. Reid, a man who has been a determined advocate for women in the profession, with the WLD President's Award. The event will feature a buffet brunch, jazz music, a silent auction with items such as a golf package, sports tickets and a week in a spacious time share unit, as well as great networking. Maximizing Talk Shows and Roundtables May 16

Join award-winning Philadelphia region broadcasting and print trailblazers who will discuss the unique challenges of producing and hosting talk shows and roundtables on legal topics at the Thursday, May 16 meeting of the Bar News-Media Committee.

Our all-star panel will share their experiences and challenges reporting on law-related issues, while providing attendees with insights on how they may become better resources and/or interview subjects. Panelists include Rachel Cieri, managing editor, SmartCEO Magazine; Lynn Doyle, host/executive producer of "It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle" on The Comcast Network; Hank Grezlak, associate publisher & editor-in-chief, The Legal Intelligencer; and Wally Kennedy, news anchor, KYW Newsradio. The moderator is Gina Furia Rubel, chair of the Bar-News Media Committee.

Young, Diverse Attorneys at May 21 Leadership Institute

Join us as we present "Young, Diverse and Gifted: The Next Generation of Legal Leaders," a panel highlighting young, diverse attorneys who are doing significant things in the legal community on Tuesday, May 21. Our panelists will share their career paths, tips for success and practical advice. An audience Q&A opportunity will follow.

34th Annual Bar Association 5K Run/Walk May 19

More than 1,000 runners and walkers are expected to take part in the 34th Annual Philadelphia Bar Association 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, May 19 along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

This is one of the oldest and most respected events of its kind in Philadelphia. The Run/Walk format provides the opportunity for athletes of all levels to participate in this charity event to benefit the Support Center for Child Advocates.

Many different competition divisions are available, including open run, individual run, Bar Association, legal team, corporate team, male and female and age groups. Law firms and companies may enter 5K Run teams. For an application contact Michael Berkowitz at mjberkowitz@crbcp.com or 215-567-2010 (ext 132). Deadline for team registration is May 11.

Awards will be presented to the top finishers in each age group and the overall male and female winners. All participants who complete the Run or Walk will receive a short-sleeve T-shirt.

Children ages 5-10 will love running in the free Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney Kids' Dash. The 200-yard non-competitive Kids' Dash begins immediately after the Run/Walk start. All participants will receive a Race give-a-way. Child-friendly activities offered all morning. Registration is required for each child. A parent or guardian must be present.

Donate Sneakers at May 19 5K Run/Walk

The Philadelphia Bar Association's Green Ribbon Committee is partnering with Community Recycling ShoeBox Recycling for sneaker donations at this year's 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Support Center for Child Advocates.

All of the proceeds from your sneaker donations will go to the SCCA.

Simply bring any unwanted sneakers to the event on Sunday, May 19 and drop them off in one of the collection boxes. For shoes that can be repurposed, consider putting a note and your email address into one of the shoes to track their trek via ShoeBox Recycling's SoleMate program.
