Immigration Debate Brings Opportunity for Young Lawyers by Lauren Russell

A storm of controversy is forming in the United States around the issue of immigration provoking a downpour of legal questions. But instead of staying inside, young lawyers around the country are stepping out to brave the weather -- and soak up the benefits.

Two young Philadelphia lawyers recently took that opportunity, working on the much-talked-about Lozano vs. City of Hazleton immigration case. Elena Park and Ilan Rosenberg, both of Cozen O’Connor, were part of a team of attorneys from their firm who, along with American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania, represented a group of landlords, business owners, and legal and illegal immigrants seeking to strike down anti-illegal immigration ordinances the city passed.

Bar Foundation Private Jet Raffle at Gala; Tickets $100

The Philadelphia Bar Foundation will raffle off a private jet for a round-trip for seven people, plus $1,000 in spending money, at the annual Andrew Hamilton Gala on Saturday, Nov. 17. Tickets are still available for the event at 215-238-6347. We will only sell 1,000 chances for this raffle. Tickets are $100 apiece. You can use the jet within a year's time. Your trip can be to the destination of your choice, as long as it is within one hour's flight time from your departure point. From Philadelphia, that distance reaches from Maine to North Carolina.

Imagine an easy Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket getaway - no ferries needed! A golf outing with your buddies in Virginia or North Carolina? Skiing in Vermont? A Penn State football weekend? Jetting to the Hamptons and avoiding New York traffic altogether?

All this, while skipping the long lines and hassles of commercial air travel. Contact Lynne Browne to buy a raffle ticket NOW at 215-238-6347 or lbrown@philabar.org.

We anticipate this adventure will sell out quickly, and tickets are strictly on a first-come, first served basis. We hope you will join us at the Gala, but the winner does not need to be present to win.

The 29th Annual Andrew Hamilton Gala, "Philadelphia Justice in Films," will include the presentation of the Morris Shuster Fellowships, along with the presentation of the Citizens Bank Pro Bono Award and the Philadelphia Bar Foundation Award. It will be held at historic Sherman Mills in East Falls.
