Volunteers needed for Legal Line TOMORROW

Volunteers are needed for Legal Line tomorrow, December 16, from 5-8 pm at the LRIS office of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Volunteers provide callers with free legal advice and referrals, and a LRIS staff member is always available to assist. Most importantly, food is provided. Once here, scroll to the bottom of the page to access the forms for each round of competition and sign up for a time slot(s) that works best for you. Remember, however, once that round is filled with volunteers, no more will be accepted. So sign up fast!

If you've volunteered in the past, we thank you and hope that you will do so this year. If you have not yet volunteered for the Mock Trial Competition, we encourage you to do so and are confident the experience will be rewarding. As a judge, you can chose to fill as many time slots as your schedule will allow and you do not need trial experience to participate. All you need is a willingness to give some time and be wowed by the high school students!

Help the Support Center for Child Advocates' Holiday Toy Drive, Today through Dec. 19

Volunteers are needed to help sort and bag more than 3,000 toys expected to be collected and delivered to kids and their families this Saturday, Dec. 19.

The Support Center is seeking "elves" to help sort and bag the toys up until Dec. 18 and drivers on Dec. 19 to help deliver the toys. "Elves" are needed any time between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. today through Dec. 18 (ideally for at least two-hours) at the Toy Drive Site, 1880 JFK Blvd., 4th Floor. Email Jeff Kahn if you can help.

Email Jeff as well if you can help deliver the toys on the 19th. Drivers will meet at the Support Center's headquarters, 1800 Cherry St.

Fun Had by All at YLD Holiday Party

More than 100 partygoers enjoyed the YLD's 2009 Holiday Party, Dec. 3 at Tavern on Broad. A gift drive held at the event was also a tremendous success, with dozens of toys, games and other fun items collected. TODAY:: Getting What You Want in a Career: How to Identify and Achieve Your Goals

Today, Dec. 15, the Attorney Career Development Committee will present "Getting What You Want in a Career: How to Identify and Achieve Your Goals", a lunchtime seminar at Bar Association headquarters.

Successful lawyers often get that way by understanding what they want and then design goals to get them there. You will learn how lawyers with different career experiences - large firm partner, Fortune 500 corporate executive and consultant to the legal profession - took control of their careers by setting and prioritizing goals. Special exercises help you identify your goals and strategies to achieve them.

Event leaders are: Jane L. Dalton, partner, Duane Morris; Charisse R. Lillie, senior vice president, Comcast; and Arthur Bousel, leader of Lawyer 2 Lawyer Career Management.

Volunteers Needed for YLD Mentoring Program

The YLD needs volunteers for its Mentoring Program, an endeavor that seeks to foster the professional development of of Philadelphia's future attorneys and simulate the growth, diversity and participation of Philadelphia lawyers in Bar Association activities and the community at large.

Each mentor is assigned to serve as a role model and counselor to one mentee. Mentorship is an obligation and responsibility. Mentors must:

1) Reach out and make initial contact with their mentee;

2) Have one in-person or telephonic meeting with their mentee in advance of the Mentorship Program Event;

3) Have one or more in person meetings with their mentee after the Mentorship Program Event;

4) Remain as a resource to the mentee for the course of the year.
