Music & Theater Wing Committee
"Way back in the colonies 250 years ago
The Music & Theatre Wing seeks to educate the community about the law in an entertaining way, to humanize lawyers to the broader community, and to provoke thought and collegiality among members of our profession, while affording Music & Theatre Wing members a creative outlet. We contribute our talents to assist cultural and educational institutions, as well as sister committees of the Bar Association.
The Philadelphia Bar Association Music & Theatre Wing is the oldest Bar theatrical society in the country, with a long tradition of producing innovative programs. The Theatre Wing encourages interested Bar Association members to add their talents and creative abilities to our committee. We need writers, actors, singers, musicians, directors and back-stage talent!
Here is a sampling of some past Theatre Wing projects:
Producing Gilbert & Sullivan's "Trial by Jury," in a City Hall Courtroom, and reprising the production every few years as a Music & Theatre Wing tradition;
Producing Musical and comedy reviews for the Bar and for law firms;
Providing actor-witnesses for legal educational programs, both on film or in person;
Producing Script-in-hand readings and developing new plays about legal themes, including Law Day programs for school children;
Providing lawyer-actors for PBS radio series: "America on Trial;"
Developing programs to celebrate legal milestones: The 200th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights, the 200th Anniversary of the Constitution; The 200th Anniversary of the Federal Courts, including our acclaimed "Constitution Capers." (Theatre Wing judges and lawyers learned to tap dance for that one!); the 250th anniversary of Andrew Hamilton's victory resulting in the concept of "The Philadelphia Lawyer."
