Run Particulars

Welcome to the Philadelphia Bar Association 5K Run/5K Walk! This event attracts nearly 1,000 runners and walkers of all ages each year, and is one of the oldest and most respected events of its kind in the city of Philadelphia! The run/walk format provides the opportunity for athletes of all levels to participate in this charity event organized by the Philadelphia Bar Association to benefit the Support Center for Child Advocates.

Location:
Entry to Martin Luther Kind Drive (West River Drive) adjacent to Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Course:
Run and Walk both start adjacent to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and proceed out Martin Luther King Drive (West River Drive) and back.
5K USATF Certified Course.
Clocks will be positioned at 1 & 2 Mile marks.

Starting Times:
7:15-8:15 a.m. - Event Registration & Number Pick-Up
8:30 a.m. - Run starts
8:35 a.m. - Walk starts

Competition Divisions:

  • Philadelphia Bar Association Members
  • Company Teams
  • Legal Teams
  • Male and Female

Age groups: 13 and under, 14-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over.

Awards presented in all divisions.

Entry Fees & Registration

Open Run Competition:
The entry is $20 for each Run registration postmarked by midnight May 17, 2006, and in-person registration between May 18-19. Registration on the day of the event is $25. On-line registration at www.active.com is available until May 19, 2006, at $20, plus the service fee.

Aditional Philadelphia Bar Association Competition:
Registration for Philadelphia Bar members automatically includes members in a separate open bar competition. The entry fee for each Philadelphia Bar Association member ruunning in the 5K Run is $35 if postmarked by May 17, 2006, and in-person registration between May 18-19. Registration on the day of the event is $50. On-line registration at www.active.com is available until May 19, 2006, at $35, plus the service fee.

5K Walk:
Pre-registration entry fee for individuals in the 5K Walk is $15 and must be postmarked by May 17, 2006. Registration on the day of the event is $15. Immediate family members may register as a family at a reduced rate of $50. On-line registration at www.active.com is available until May 19, 2006, at $15/$50, plus the service fee.

Registration:
Mail registrations to Runner's Advocate, Philadelphia Bar Association 5K, 2005 Country Club Dr., Doylestown, PA 18901.

Register in person May 18 & 19, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Caesar, Rivise, Bernstein, Cohen & Pokotilow, Ltd., 1635 Market St., 11th Fl., Philadelphia.

Registration the day of the event will take place from 7:15-8:15 a.m. at the entry to Martin Luther King Drive adjacent to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Awards:
For the 5K Run, silver bowls will be awarded to the first-place male and female runners; DOLFIN running wear will be awarded to the first-place male and female in each age group; and medals will be awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place finishers, both male and female, in each age group.

T-shirts will be presented to all participants who finish the Run and the Walk.

Special prizes will be given to runners/walkers who collect more than $250 in pledges!

Team Competition:
Law firms and companies may enter as teams in the 5K Run. For a team application, e-mail Michael Berkowitz. The deadline for team registration is May 12, 2006.

Post-Run Festivities:
An awards ceremony will take place at the finish line after the Run. Post-run festivities, featuring a variety of refreshments and giveaways, will be fun for the entire family.

Results:
Run results will be posted at www.erols.com/advte, and printed in the Runner's Gazette sent to all registerd 5K runners.

About Child Advocates

The goal of the Philadelphia Bar Association 5K Run/5K Walk is to benefit the work of the Support Center for Child Advocates. The agency will use the 2006 event proceeds to support their vital mission of service on behalf of needy children in Philadelphia.

The Support Center for Child Advocates works to protect children who have been physically or sexually abused. The agency teams dedicated volunteer attorneys with staff social workers and lawyers, and together they represent their child clients in the city's courtrooms, securing their safety and the services they need in order to heal. Each year, Child Advocates serves nearly 700 children--helping them testify in court against their abusers, finding safe, permanent places for them to live, and making sure that each child is in school and recieving appropriate care and treatment, Child Advocates welcomes volunteers to provide legal or medical services and to participate in fundraising efforts and their annual toy drive.
