RESOLUTION OF THE PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION CREATING THE PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION ACADEMY

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association has always been committed to advancing the education of its members;

WHEREAS, the City of Philadelphia offers vast opportunities for the cultural, social, educational, and artistic enrichment;

WHEREAS, the members of the Philadelphia Bar Association have interests and talents beyond their day-to-day vocation in the practice of law;

WHEREAS, the members of the Philadelphia Bar Association, through their Association, should be given opportunities to advance and expand these interests;

WHEREAS, understanding cultural, social, educational, and artistic matters is critical to attorneys interacting with their clients and effectively advancing their careers and enhancing the quality of their lives;

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association is uniquely situated to make available to its members access to Philadelphia’s cultural, social, educational, and artistic institutions;

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association is committed to building strategic relationships with other institutions that bring value to the membership and promote the growth and strength of Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, no existing section, division or committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association presently is able to develop these relationships or create related programming opportunities for members; and

WHEREAS, technological advancements, especially the availability of on-line learning and registration, make it possible for the Philadelphia Bar Association to explore these areas without significant costs or diversion of resources;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Governors authorizes creation of a Philadelphia Bar Association Academy in order to enhance the understanding of cultural, social, education, and artistic matters by members of the Association;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chancellor may appoint a group of individuals charged with the responsibility of exploring these opportunities and developing the Philadelphia Bar Association Academy and making recommendations to the Board of Governors on issues of structure and governance.
