RESOLUTION OF THE PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION TO CONVERT THE LAW PRACTICE MANAGEMENT DIVISION TO A STANDING COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association recognizes the importance of assisting lawyers with the business aspects of practicing law by providing programming and expert advice on topics such as marketing, management, technology and finances; and

WHEREAS, the Law Practice Management Division was formed to serve that purpose, pursuant to an amendment of the Association's Bylaws in July 2007; and

WHEREAS, the structure for Law Practice Management Support has evolved within the Association since its inception; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors has concluded that the goals of the Law Practice Management Division would be better met by reconstituting it as a Standing Committee; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors has concluded that the Solo & Small Firm Committee, Mid-Size Firm Committee and Large Firm Committee would better serve their respective constituencies if they were returned to their former status of not being within a Division of the Association; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors may discontinue any Division pursuant to Section 801 of the Bylaws and may form any Standing Committee pursuant to Section 700 of the Bylaws;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Governors reaffirms its commitment to Law Practice Management support and programming within the Association;

AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Law Practice Management Division is hereby discontinued and the Law Practice Management Committee is hereby formed and shall be added to the Register of Committees as a Standing Committee;

AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Solo & Small Firm Committee, Mid-Size Firm Committee and Large Firm Committee are hereby returned to their status as Standing Committees and shall be listed as such on the Register of Committees;

AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Law Practice Management Committee may create, modify or discontinue subcommittees it deems helpful to effectuate its mission, including without limitation marketing, management, finance, technology and vendor services;

AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, pursuant to Section 1102 of the Bylaws, that Sections 208(A)(8) and 806 shall be removed from the Bylaws to reflect the changes directed above.
