PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION PROBATE AND TRUST LAW SECTION
DIVERSITY ACTION PLAN

The Probate and Trust Law Section of the Philadelphia Bar Association (“Probate Section”) believes that inclusion, participation and involvement of a diverse group of attorneys, representing the various facets of our legal community, including races, ethnicities, national origins, gender, sexual orientations, and other distinct group interests, in Probate Section programs and activities is essential to insure the continued relevance of the professional services which our members provide to the community.

To help guide the Probate Section’s effort to increase diversity in its membership, programs and activities, the Probate Section’s Executive Committee designated an ad hoc Committee to assess the Probate Section’s current environment and efforts around diversity. The ad hoc Committee makes the following recommendations to the Executive Committee of the Probate Section for consideration in its diversity plan:

Action

A Committee for Diversity should be created as a permanent part of the Section’s governance. This Committee will have as its initial objectives:

  1. To establish connections with the affinity bar associations to create effective means for communicating with their memberships and increasing participation by affinity bar association memberships in Probate Section activities.
  2. To identify and promote meaningful opportunities for inclusion, participation and involvement of attorneys from diverse groups in Probate Section activities including all levels of governance, committee activities and programs.
  3. To develop a process that strives to ensure that the Probate Section’s leadership will encourage, facilitate and support steps toward increasing diversity within the committees and within its activities.
