Below is a list of trainings, by subject matter, most of which are sponsored or co-sponsored by the public interest agencies who need volunteers. Most training sessions are offered for little or no cost, provided that a pro bono case is taken by the lawyer attending the training. For additional trainings on related topics, go to www.pbi.org.

On Thursday, January 23, the Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP) will present a free CLE program entitled, "Representing Clients in SSI/SSDI Cases," from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., (breakfast served at 8:30 a.m. Course begins promptly at 9:00 a.m.), at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, 1701 Market St., Philadelphia. This course is open to current and prospective volunteers and attendees are eligible to receive 2.0 Substantive CLE credits in exchange for volunteering with HAP. Friday, February 28, VIP will present a pro bono CLE training on Civil Forfeiture, from 12:00-2:15pm, at Pepper Hamilton LLP, 3000 Two Logan Square, Eighteenth and Arch Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Training materials and a light lunch will be provided. Participants will receive two substantive CLE credits in exchange for taking a VIP case within six months. Friday, February 28, the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers, in collaboration with HIAS Pennsylvania, will present the first in a series of three free training programs for all interested law students, paralegals and attorneys interested in volunteering to participate at Pro Bono Citizen Day 2014 on Saturday, March 29. Pro Bono Citizenship Day 2014 is a collaborative community-wide project that will provide free assistance to eligible lawful permanent residents who wish to apply for U.S. citizenship. The first training program on Friday, February 28, will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Duane Morris, 30 South 17th Street, 12th Floor, Philadelphia; the second training program will be held on Thursday, March 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at HIAS Pennsylvania, 2100 Arch St., Philadelphia; and the third training program will be provided via webinar on Thursday, March 20, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. (registrants will be notified via email of webinar login information). Pro Bono Citizen Day 2014 will be held on Saturday, March 29, at five different locations throughout Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware Counties and will require a two-hour commitment by volunteers between 10:00 a.m. and 4 p.m. Two hours of free CLE credit will be provided to attorneys who attend one of the training programs and volunteer to help clients apply for citizenship during Pro Bono Citizenship Day. You need not be an immigration lawyer to participate. Bono Citizenship Day is co-sponsored by the American Immigration Lawyers' Association-Philadelphia Chapter, HIAS Pennsylvania, Nationalities Services Center, the Mayor's Office of Immigrant and Multicultural Affairs and other public interest and community organizations. Advanced registration for any of the CLE training programs and to volunteer is required. On Thursday, March 6, the Homeless Advocacy Project will present a free CLE program "Accessing SSI Benefits for Your Clients: Providing Representation in HAP's SOAR Project," from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Ballard Spahr, LLP, 1735 Market St., Philadelphia. Earn 3 substantive CLE credits while learning how to represent homeless men and women in HAP's celebrated expedited SSI disability benefits application project. Wednesday, April 30, The Support Center for Child Advocates will present its Volunteers Training Workshop, "How To Handle A Child Abuse Case," from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at PBI CLE Conference Center, Wanamaker Building, 10th Floor, Ste. 1010, Philadelphia. This is a full-day, 6-CLE credit course, 1 of which may be applied towards Ethics CLE credit. Register at www.pbi.org. Tuesday, May 13, The Pennsylvania Bar Institute will present the PBA Pro Bono Seminar: Making a Difference 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (a networking breakfast will be offered from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Mechanicsburg). The morning session (9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) will be presented live in Philadelphia at The CLE Conference Center, Wanamaker Building, 10th Floor, Suite 1010, Philadelphia, and simulcast to Mechanicsburg; the afternoon session (1:00-4:30 p.m.) will be presented live in Mechanicsburg and simulcast to Philadelphia. The entire session will be simulcast to a number of locations throughout the state. This program offers 6 total CLE credits, 2 of which may be applied toward Ethics. This program will begin with an Ethics Session on Access to Justice, featuring remarks by Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille and a panel discussion on the statewide hearings held by Senator Stewart Greenleaf, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Other sessions include the State of Pro Bono in Pennsylvania; Immigration Law Pro Bono for the Non-Immigration Lawyer; Don't Shut Me Off: the PUC Utility Clinic; Pro Bono Week 2014: Serving Those Who Serve (Ethics); and Job Readiness: Establishing a Statewide Pro Bono Expungement Program.
