This year has manifested, to a higher degree than ever before, the intense commitment and devotion of the entire Philadelphia Legal Community to promoting access to our justice system for those who cant find their way without our help the poor, the disabled, the discriminated against, the underprivileged, our children, the elderly, said Robert D. Lane, whose two-year term as president of the Foundation expires this month. The Philadelphia Bar Foundation is proud to announce the largest annual grant and award fund distribution in our history, in excess of $425,000, as compared to little more than half of that amount only a few years ago. As we demonstrate our support and admiration for our grant and award recipients, the many legal service agencies that provide the access to justice that we seek to promote, we also want to thank the lawyers, law firms and companies who work with us. Without their generous contributions, the Foundations work would not be possible.
Founded in 1964 as the charitable arm of the Philadelphia Bar Association devoted to the support of legal services agencies, the Philadelphia Bar Foundations mission is to promote access to justice for citizens in the region, particularly those struggling with poverty, abuse and discrimination.
Fundraising efforts by the Foundation throughout the year include a golf outing, the Andrew Hamilton Gala, individual donations, and the recently developed Raising the Bar Campaign, which raised almost $1.5 million in 2006 through donations by Philadelphia law firms.
