YLD to Raise Funds for Bar Foundation with Night of Comedy

Christian Finnegan, stand-up comedian and regular panelist for VH1’s “Best Week Ever,” will fill the Academy of Natural Sciences with laughter, when he headlines the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Comedy Night on Saturday, May 6. In addition to a night filled with entertainment, attendees will join together to raise money for the Philadelphia Bar Foundation—the charitable arm of the Bar Association. The event, which runs from 7-11 p.m. features comedy, dancing, open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and a large silent auction.

The YLD Comedy Night is part of an annual mission to raise money for the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, who’s mission is to promote access to justice for all people in the community, particularly those struggling with poverty, abuse and discrimination. That mission is accomplished by providing grants and technical assistance in support of quality legal services, addressing unmet legal needs and providing education on matters in the public interest.

“In 2005, the Bar Foundation funded 29 legal-aid agencies with grants ranging in size from $2,000 to $100,000,” said Michael B. Hayes, chair of the Young Lawyers Division. “The YLD is committed to actualizing the Bar Foundation’s mission. Christian Finnegan’s appearance at this event is sure to help make it our most successful fundraiser to date.”

Finnegan, a stand-up comedian, writer and actor based in New York City, is best known for his appearances on VH1, but may also be recognized from his half hour special “Comedy Central Presents: Christian Finnegan.” He is the host of “Game Time” on TVLand, appears regularly on NBC’s “Today Show,” and played the role of Chad in “Chappelle's Show” skit of "Mad Real World.” Finnegan’s best-known writing credit is working on “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn,” a Comedy Central discussion forum featuring comedians. In addition to his television work, Finnegan continues to tour the nation with his stand-up routine.

Comedian and Philadelphia-native Anton Shuford will open for Christian Finnegan, and serve as emcee for the night.

Tickets are $55 per person and the show is open to the public. All tickets are general admission. For more information about how to support the Philadelphia Bar Foundation click HERE.
