PBI Presents "Doing Business with Canada," Thursday, Nov. 3

The Pennsylvania Bar Institute will present “Doing Business with Canada” on Thursday, Nov. 3 from 8:55 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course is worth 6 substantive CLE credits.

Every day, one billion dollars in trade crosses the U.S.-Canada border. In fact, Canada is a bigger market for the U.S. than the entire European Union.

Canada is Pennsylvania’s leading export market. 219,000 Pennsylvania jobs are supported by Canada-U.S. trade. In the Philadelphia area alone, there are over 125 Canadian-owned firms directly employing over 12,000 people.

The greater Philadelphia area does some $50 billion annually in trade with Canada. That is $136 million every day; one truck every two seconds.

While exports of Canadian pharmaceuticals make headlines, industrial goods and energy products lead the list of Canadian exports, and 70 percent of foreign direct investment by Canadians occurs in the U.S. market.

This new program brings together Canadian and U.S. lawyers to offer practical tips on doing business expeditiously across our common border. Experienced counsel will meet others involved in the practice, while those new to the practice will pick up practical tips that will get you started. Everyone will take away an invaluable reference manual prepared by the faculty.

The keynote luncheon address will be delivered by Pamela Wallin, Canadian Consul General to New York.
