Lawyers Say "Welcome America" to New Citizens at Naturalization Ceremony June 28
The words "Welcome America" will come alive Thursday morning (June 28, 2001) within the shadow of Independence Hall when 150 men, women and children from 30 different countries become new Americans at a special naturalization ceremony at 10:30 a.m., in the U.S. Courthouse Ceremonial Courtroom at 6th & Market Streets.Judge Mary A. McLaughlin, one of the newest judges of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania will preside at the ceremony, which is sponsored by the Philadelphia Bar Association. The day marks the beginning of festivities leading up to the Fourth of July.
Carl S. Primavera, Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, will offer remarks on behalf of the Association.
Norman McCall, District Adjudications Officer, will present the motions, and Aida Ayala, Deputy Clerk, will administer the oath. A response to the court on behalf of the new citizens will be offered by one of those naturalized.
A reception in honor of the new citizens sponsored by the Pennsylvania Society of Sons of the Revolution will be held adjacent to the ceremonial courtroom following the ceremony. Family members, friends and other guests will attend.
