Public Interest Section Seeks Nominations for Andrew Hamilton Award

The Philadelphia Bar Association's Public Interest Section is seeking nominations for its annual Andrew Hamilton Award.  The Andrew Hamilton Award is presented to an outstanding Philadelphia public interest attorney and will be given at the Section's annual event on Dec. 4 at the Rittenhouse Sheraton.

Nominees must be a legal services advocate or public defender employed by or associated with an organization whose purpose is to serve persons who cannot afford to pay for legal representation, or,  be a public interest lawyer working with a nonprofit organization that services a charitable or pubic interest purpose.  Nominees must have substantial experience in legal services, indigent defense or public interest law and must currently be employed as an advocate in one of these capacities.  The factors that will be considered by the selection committee in determining the 2002 recipient include:  personal vision and commitment; critical nature of the problems addressed by the nominee's advocacy; innovative nature of the nominees' work; outcomes and results achieved through effective advocacy; the difficulty of achievement; and community commitment. 

Nominations should include the individual's name, address and a brief statement describing his or her qualifications for the award.  Information should be mailed to Robert C.
