Chancellor's Forum to Address Civil Justice Gap, Nov. 13

The Philadelphia Bar Association will present a Chancellor's Forum, "The Civil Justice Gap," on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at Bar headquarters, 1101 Market St., 11th floor Conference Center. The event is free and open to all members and their guests. Lunch is available for purchase if reserved in advance. To register, click here.

Hosted by Chancellor John E. Savoth and co-sponsored by the Association's Civil Gideon Task Force, this moderated discussion will address the increase in the need for legal services for poor and vulnerable individuals in areas of basic human need, and explore strategies to narrow the civil justice gap. The forum will also highlight actual and proposed developments to increase access to justice in Pennsylvania and other jurisdictions and facilitate a discussion on how key stakeholders can work collaboratively on improving access to justice.

The forum will be moderated by Karen C. Buck, Executive Director, SeniorLAW Center, and Co-Chair of the Civil Gideon Task Force Housing Working Group. Panelists will include Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for New York City Courts Fern A. Fisher, Director of the New York State Courts Access to Justice Program; Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge Anne E. Lazarus, member of the Civil Gideon Task Force; Sen. Stewart J. Greenleaf (R-Mont./Bucks), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee; and Louis S. Rulli, Practice Professor of Law and Director of Clinical Programs, University of Pennsylvania Law School, and Co-Chair of the Civil Gideon Task Force Communications and Education Working Group.

RSVP is required. Lunch is available for purchase for $8.00 (Association members) and $9.50 (nonmembers). For more information, contact Joseph A. Sullivan, Co-Chair, Civil Gideon Task Force, at 215-981-4304, or sullivanja@pepperlaw.com; or Catherine C. Carr, Co-Chair, Civil Gideon Task Force, at 215-981-3712, or ccarr@clsphila.org.
