The Citizens Bank Pro Bono Award was first presented in 2003 and is given annually by Citizens Bank, the Philadelphia Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Foundation to a Philadelphia law firm demonstrating outstanding volunteer efforts to help provide legal services to those in need. Pepper Hamilton LLP was nominated for the award by Community Legal Services (CLS), the Pennsylvania Health Law Project, Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts and Philadelphia VIP.
Robert E. Heideck, executive partner of Pepper Hamilton LLP, announced that the firm would donate the $10,000 grant from Citizens Bank designated for support to qualifying law-related public service agencies to the Philadelphia Bar Foundation.
Founded in 1964 as the charitable arm of the Philadelphia Bar Association devoted to the support of legal services agencies, the Philadelphia Bar Foundation's mission is to promote access to justice for all of our fellow citizens in the region, particularly those struggling with poverty, abuse and discrimination. The Foundation provides grants and technical assistance to legal services organizations that have demonstrated both a need for financial support and an effective program for assisting clients.
Since 1979, the annual Andrew Hamilton Ball has been the major social event of the Philadelphia legal community.
