Elwood S. Levy Joins Philadelphia Bar Association’s 70-Year Club

Joining Levy, the only 70-Year Club member, are 52 attorneys who will be inducted into the 50-Year Club, eight who will be recognized for 60 years of membership and four for 65 years of membership. Tickets to the luncheon are $50 for Association members and $55 for non-members and are available at www.philadelphiabar.org.

A well-known trial lawyer, Levy served the Philadelphia Bar Association in various positions of leadership. He was a member of the Association’s Board of Governors and served as a member or chair of several different committees. Levy took up jogging at age 71 and a year later, in 1985, became the first over-70 runner to compete at the Philadelphia Bar Association’s annual 5K run. He received a standing ovation at the awards ceremony.

Levy was a founding member of the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association (PTLA) and served as the group’s president from 1961-63. He was awarded the PTLA’s Justice Michael A. Musmanno Award in 1982. The Musmanno award is given annually to an outstanding individual who represents the spirit and ideals of the late Justice Musmanno. He is also a member of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers.

A naval intelligence officer during World War II, Levy served in the Judge Advocate General’s office. Upon his return to Philadelphia, Levy helped start the law firm of Richter, Lord & Levy. A 1936 graduate of Harvard Law, he retired from the practice of law in the 1980s.
