Job Announcement: Executive Director of the Philadelphia Bar Association
INTRODUCTION
The Philadelphia Bar Association (the "Association") announces a national search for a successor to its long-serving Executive Director, who will retire at the end of 2013.
Founded in 1802, the Association is the oldest association of lawyers in the United States. It is devoted to serving the interests of its 13,000 members and to improving access to justice for the Philadelphia community.
DUTIES
The Executive Director manages the affairs of the Association and supports the Association's Chancellor and Board of Governors.
Significant responsibilities include:
- Supervising a staff of 25
- Preparing and overseeing a budget of $4.5 million
- Helping to establish and manage Association programs and policies
- Working with Bar leaders to create distinctive services and strategic initiatives to enhance the value and importance of Bar Association membership
- Developing new sources of non-dues income
- Interacting with a diverse membership and community
- Helping the Association fulfill its commitment to support and expand legal services for the needy
QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent leadership, management and communication skills
- Demonstrates management responsibility with a non-profit or professional services organization, preferably with a connection to the legal profession
- Bachelor's degree required. A law degree or advanced degree in another relevant field would be useful but is not a prerequisite.
- High personal integrity, sound judgment and a strong work ethic are essential, together with energy, imagination and a passion for the opportunity to lead the Association through the 21st century
SALARY AND BENEFITS
