The Young Lawyers Division will present the F. Sean Peretta Service Award to Alan M. Feldman, the founder of Feldman, Shepherd, Wohlgelernter, Tanner & Weinstock.
The Peretta Service Award is given annually to a member of the legal community who exhibits exceptional community service.
As Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2006, Feldman established the Raising the Bar Campaign, which seeks to raise law firm donations in Philadelphia to a minimum of $300 per Philadelphia-based attorney. As of January 2007, the campaign has raised $1.4 million. In addition to his work with the Association, Feldman has lectured and published materials for numerous programs and seminars, co-authored a textbook on premises liability law and taught trial advocacy at Temple University Beasley School of Law.
He graduated magna cum laude from Temple University in 1973 and is a 1976 graduate of Temple University School of Law.
Thomas A. Spratt Jr., an associate at Pepper Hamilton LLP, will receive the Craig M. Perry Service Award.
The award is presented annually to a young lawyer who has devoted substantial time and energy to community-oriented activities, including, but not limited to, pro bono and charity work. Perry was a member of the YLD Executive Committee who suffered an untimely death. He was very involved in community service and active in student-related and other YLD programs.
Spratt has gone to great lengths to actively encourage law firms and attorneys to volunteer with Consumer Bankruptcy Assistance Project (CBAP) since the bankruptcy laws were reformed in 2005. He routinely takes pro bono cases from CBAP and Philadelphia VIP. CBAPs assistance not only helps clear debts for some of Philadelphias poorest residents but allows them to stay in their homes and keep their utility services connected. Spratt is a 2005 graduate of Rutgers University School of Law.
Phil Martelli, St. Joseph Universitys basketball head coach, will be the keynote speaker for the YLD annual meeting, which begins at noon.
