Candidates/Hosts Sought for Exchange Program with Lyon, France
In December of 1997, the Bar Association, through the Chair of the International Law Committee, Michael Scullin, negotiated and signed an agreement for the development of a Twinning Relationship with the bar association, or Barreau, of Lyon, France. The Board of Governors had earlier passed a resolution moving forward with the initiative.The agreement contemplated the establishment of a cooperative relationship between the bar organizations, with the development of an attorney exchange program, and eventually programs of joint interest like seminars and other sharing of information and expertise.
Since then, the Philadelphia Bar has already hosted a number of French lawyer-interns. In fact, over a dozen lawyers have participated in the international internship exchange program to date.
Shahram Siddiqui, of Cozen O?Connor, the first Philadelphia lawyer to participate in the program, reports that the experience in Lyon has already netted him a number of clients.
In a related development, Enid Adler, former co-chair of the International Law Committee and a member of numerous delegations to Lyon, recently was invited by the Lyon bar to participate with other representatives from around the world in a seminar in Barcelona, Spain on enforcement of arbitral awards.
Law firms wishing to host a French lawyer-intern may submit a letter of interest and, if applicable, describe the position or positions that may be available. Prospective lawyer candidates who are interested in serving an internship in France should submit a letter of application and curriculum vitae, via email or post, to Michael Scullin at the address indicated below. The application letter should state the relevant qualifications of the applicant, explain the applicant?s desire to participate in the program, and if applicable, identify any particular requirements or interests that he or she may have.
