Local Lawyers Turned Authors to Speak at Bar Association
PHILADELPHIA Tonya M. Evans-Walls, Gregory P. Miller and Sheilah D. Vance, all distinguished local African-American attorneys who have published works of fiction, will be the guest speakers at the June 29 meeting of the Philadelphia Bar Associations Minorities in the Profession Committee. The event, scheduled to begin at noon, will be held in the Associations 11th Floor Conference Center at 1101 Market Street. Evans-Walls, the managing attorney at TME Law, is a poet and author of various works of non-fiction and fiction, including SHINE! A graduate of Northwestern University, Evans-Walls competed on the womens professional tennis circuit before attending Howard University Law School, where she was editor-in-chief of the Howard Law Journal.Miller is a founding shareholder of Miller, Alfano & Raspanti. He entered private practice in 1984 after nearly 10 years as an officer in the U.S. Navys Judge Advocate General Corps and later as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorneys Office in Philadelphia. The author of Becoming His Fathers Son: A Novel, Miller is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University.
Vance, who heads The Elevator Group, is also an adjunct professor and assistant dean for Academic Support at Villanova Law School. She is the author of Chasing the 400. Her previous legal experience includes serving as an associate in the firm of Atkinson & Archie, assistant counsel for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority and press secretary for Governor Robert P. Casey during his 1986 campaign. She has worked as a political and media consultant for the Democratic National Committee. Vance is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center.
