YLD to Present Gwen Roseman Stern with F. Sean Peretta Service Award

PHILADELPHIA—The Young Lawyers Division will present the F. Sean Peretta Service Award to Gwen Roseman Stern, an attorney and educator, at the YLD Annual Meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at noon at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The Peretta Service Award is given annually to a member of the legal community who exhibits exceptional community service.

Stern has balanced her legal career – including more than 16 years with White and Williams, LLC in Philadelphia – with an educational one, teaching at the Temple University Beasley School of Law and directing students at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Stern has worked as an adjunct professor at Temple law school since 1989, teaching students research skills, writing legal briefs and trial advocacy, including training in the skills of direct- and cross-examination and the delivery of opening and closing speeches at trial.

Most recently she created the new Philadelphia Constitutional Literacy Project in which Penn law students teach city high school students their rights and responsibilities under the U.S. Constitution. In 2004, she was the Director of Trial Training for the Philadelphia High School Mock Trial Competition in which she coached Overbrook High School to a first place finish in the Pennsylvania Mock Trial Competition.

While with White and Williams, Stern worked mostly with the firm’s Casualty and Healthcare Department and tried numerous cases to verdict. She previously worked for two other Philadelphia law firms and has handled all aspects of litigation and trial preparation.

Stern graduated summa cum laude with a degree in journalism from the University of Maryland. She earned her law degree in 1986 from Temple, where she was a member of the National Moot Court Honor Society and won the “Best Oral Advocate” award in one of the competitions.

From 1998 to 2001, Stern ran, Motivate Me, LLC, in which she wrote and produced motivational fitness tapes. In promoting her products, she appeared in various publications and television shows, including ”The Today Show” and ”The View. ”

She has also been active in community service, creating programs for the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association and also has worked with the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation.
