On May 17, 2004, the nation will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic U.S. Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education. In Brown, the Court ruled that segregated "separate but equal" public schools were unconstitutional and that schools must be integrated "with all deliberate speed."
The Association is looking for lawyers who are old enough to remember the Brown decision and whose lives have been touched in one way or another by Brown. If you have a story to tell about your own experiences with the Brown decision, you may be asked to participate in a program the morning of Wednesday, May 5, which the Association is co-sponsoring with the School District of Philadelphia as part of Law Week 2004.
The program will be held at the School District Headquarters on Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Your real-life experience may be incorporated into a telecast that will be carried by the School District's new television channel and major media outlets. By relaying your recollections of, and your experiences with, Brown, you will help to increase public understanding of this important decision and help make the Brown decision come alive for young people. No matter how insignificant your experience seems, we are interested in hearing about it. Lawyers who think they might like to participate should contact Dan Cirucci at (215) 238-6340, or e-mail their stories to firstname.lastname@example.org.
