Law Week Committee

Each year, the President of the United States declares May 1st as Law Day. It is the celebration of the rights and benefits bestowed upon all citizens through the U.S. constitution. In Philadelphia, we extend that celebration during the entire week preceding Law Day. The American Bar Association has deemed this year's theme "No Courts, No Justice, No Freedom."

The Philadelphia Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division coordinates numerous programs presented at area schools and throughout the community to celebrate the American legal system. Some of the public service events which take place during Law Week include Legal Advice Live! at several branches of the Philadelphia Free Library where volunteer lawyers provide free legal advice and information to library patrons; Lawyer for a Day, where volunteer attorneys and judges pair with high school students and take them on tours of the city's courts; and Lawyer in the Classroom, where volunteer lawyers go into city schools and talk with students about careers in law.
