TEMPORARY DUES REDUCTION TO ENCOURAGE NEW MEMBERSHIPS
WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association has set a goal of 100% membership and involvement by eligible attorneys in the Bar Association;
WHEREAS, the Association's 1995 survey of lawyers showed that 53.5% of all public sector attorneys, 85.9% of sole practitioners, 88.3% of law firm associates and 91.4% of law firm partners are members of the Association;
WHEREAS, aggressive action can and should be taken to increase the percentage participation by lawyers in the Philadelphia legal community;
WHEREAS, the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association believes that a one-time experimental reduction in dues may induce present non members to join the Association;
WHEREAS, the Board of Governors believes that once non member lawyers have had an opportunity to experience the benefits and rewards of membership in the Philadelphia Bar Association, they will seek to continue their Association membership;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEDthat the Philadelphia Bar Association adopts a reduced dues structure for dues payable for Association membership in 1997, effecting a temporary trial reduction of dues under Section 500 (A), for attorneys otherwise eligible for Association membership who have not been members of the Association within the past four years, as follows:
Section 500. Dues; Amount.
(A)(1) Except as set forth in Section 500(A)(2) below, Regular Members shall pay the following annual dues, determined by their status on January 1 of each year:
Admitted less than two full years: $54.00
Admitted two full years or more but less than four full years: $54.50
Admitted four full years or more but less than ten full years: $95.50
Admitted ten full years or more: $112.00
(2) Regular Members who work for governmental and public service agencies shall pay the following annual dues, determined by their status on January 1 of each year:
Admitted less than two full years: $31.00
Admitted two full years or more but less than four full years: $31.00
Admitted four full years or more but less than ten full years: $48.50
Admitted ten full years or more: $64.50
For purposes of this Section 500(A) the period of a Member's admission shall be calculated from the date on which the Member was first admitted to practice before any court of record.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Association continuously will examine its member services, programs, and policies with the goal of encouraging all sectors of the profession to join the Association.
