ELIMINATION OF THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association is committed to encouraging all interested members of the Association to stand for election for the offices of Vice Chancellor, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and for membership on the Board of Governors;

WHEREAS, the function of the Nominating Committee is to render the official endorsement of the Bar Association with respect to candidates standing for Bar Association elections;

WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 402 (F) of the Association Bylaws, the Nominating Committee is required to endorse one or more nominees for the offices of Vice Chancellor, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, Assistant Treasurer, and three nominees for election to membership on the Board of Governors;

WHEREAS, the endorsements of the Nominating Committee, which have the effect of favoring the endorsed candidates over all others for a particular office, are inconsistent with the goal of encouraging interested individuals to run for the Board of Governors and the line offices;

WHEREAS, elimination of the Nominating Committee would place all individuals interested in standing for Bar Association election on an equal footing vis a vis the Bar Association;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association Board of Governors supports the elimination of the Nominating Committee and directs that the Chancellor and/or his designees take all appropriate steps necessary to effect an amendment of Article IV of the Association Bylaws consistent therewith.
