RESOLUTION SPONSORING A PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION TEAM IN THE ANNUAL AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY BIKE-A-THON
WHEREAS, many members of the Philadelphia Bar Association have been afflicted with some form of cancer, or have family members, friends, or staff who have been so afflicted; and,
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society has sponsored an annual Bike-A-Thon for the past 32 years, the purpose of which is to raise funds for cancer research, education and patient support; and,
WHEREAS, in 2004 the Philadelphia Bar Association had a team of 171 cyclists which included lawyers, judges, family, staff and friends that participated in the American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon, departing from the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia and riding to Lenape Park in Egg Harbor, NJ; and,
WHEREAS, the 2004 Bar Association team raised over $87,000.00; and,
WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association Team wishes to make this an annual event, with increased programming in cancer awareness, survivorship support, team training rides and other related programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Governors hereby authorizes the continuation of the Philadelphia Bar Association Bike-A-Thon Team for the American Cancer Society annual Bike-A-Thon.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association shall support, on a yearly basis, the educational and activity programming initiatives of the Philadelphia Bar Association Bike-A-Thon Team.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association Bike-A-Thon Team shall report to the Chancellor and the Board of Governors on a regular basis.
