RESOLUTION URGING THE STATE JUSTICE INSTITUTE TO HELP FUND
GENDER FAIRNESS PROGRAMMING FOR THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE COURTS

WHEREAS, in 1993, the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, together with the Pennsylvania Bar Association, established the Pennsylvania Joint Task Force to Ensure Gender Fairness in the Courts;

WHEREAS, after issuing Interim Reports one and two, the Task Force has moved to implement its recommendation for education as a result of the findings in those reports;

WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Bar Association Gender Fairness in the Justice System Task Force and Racial Bias in the Justice System Task Force endorse the concept paper submitted to the State Justice Institute requesting grant assistance to retain nationally recognized consultants to conduct educational seminars;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association hereby endorses the requested grant assistance to retain nationally recognized consultants to conduct a two-day in-depth education seminar for key bench and bar leaders from each of the Commonwealth's twelve zones and representatives from the Pennsylvania Association of Court Administrators and the Education Committee of the Task Force;

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association urges the State Justice Institute to support the proposal for gender fairness education in the Pennsylvania court system.
