WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;
WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;
WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;
WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended various initiatives by Philadelphia VIP including building resource teams, reviving mentoring programs and creating collaborative networks;
WHEREAS, the Board of Governors recognizes that Philadelphia VIP is uniquely suited to strengthen the partnership between the legal services community and the private law firm community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association supports the leadership of Philadelphia VIP and supports their implementation strategies as outlined in Exhibit B.
