WHEREAS, the stagnation of federal judges' salaries has led to judges leaving the federal bench to return to the private sector;

WHEREAS, the inadequacy in salaries is a deterrent to qualified lawyers accepting federal judicial appointments;

WHEREAS, these factors directly contribute to the shortage of qualified and diverse federal judges;

WHEREAS, legislation is now pending in the Senate and the House to provide an increase in salaries for federal judges;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Philadelphia Bar Association supports and encourages the enactment of legislation that will increase the salary of federal judges.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chancellor is hereby authorized to communicate this position to Congress, the White House and others.
