RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE TO URGE THE INCREASED PARTICIPATION OF CORPORATE LEGAL DEPARTMENTS

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;<

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended greater participation by corporate legal departments

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors recognizes the role corporate legal departments can play in the provision of pro bono services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports these recommendations (see Report Recommendations H1 to H8) and will promote these goals to DELVACCA and encourage its members to consider these suggestions as the elements of an effective pro bono program

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association urges DELVACCA to give a report on their pro bono efforts at the annual Board of Governors meeting devoted to pro bono.
