RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE TO INCREASE THE LEADERSHIP ROLE OF THE LEGAL SERVICE AGENCIES

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended that the legal services community expand its leadership role in increasing the opportunity for pro bono participation;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors recognizes the vital and important role of the legal services community in pro bono service.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports this recommendation and requests the Delivery of Legal Services Committee ("DLSC") to encourage member organizations to adopt the recommendations set forth by the Task Force Report (see Report Recommendations J1 through J10).

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DLSC is asked to monitor the progress of the adoption and implementation of these recommendations by the member organizations.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the DLSC will assist member organizations in developing standards among their members organizations as applies to these recommendations.
