RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE TO INCREASE THE PARTICIPATION OF SOLO AND SMALL FIRM PRACTITIONERS

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended greater participation by small firm and solo practitioners;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors recognizes the role solo and small firm practitioners can play in the provision of pro bono services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports this recommendation and asks the Solo and Small Firm Committee to propose the means to assist solo and small firm practitioners in providing pro bono service;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association will use its resources, technological and otherwise, to assist the Solo and Small Firm Committees in communicating available pro bono opportunities to their constituents.
