RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE FOR THE PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION TO GATHER MEANINGFUL DATA IN ASSOCIATION SURVEYS

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended that the five year survey conducted by the Philadelphia Bar Association have more relevant questions concerning pro bono to effectively gather more meaningful data on the unmet legal needs of the poor and disadvantaged;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors recognizes the importance of gathering accurate and relevant information on the pro bono delivery of legal services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports this recommendation and asks Chair of the Survey Committee to develop questions on future surveys regarding the pro bono delivery of legal services designed to assess the response of the legal community to unmet needs of the poor and disadvantaged.
