RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE TO COORDINATE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A MECHANISM FOR THE ANNUAL REPORTING OF PRO BONO PARTICIPATION BY LAW FIRMS

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended the Philadelphia Bar Association coordinate the development of a mechanism for annually reporting pro bono participation by law firms;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors recognizes the importance of publicizing pro bono endeavors and its effect on encouraging participation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports this recommendation and asks the Law Firm Pro Bono Committee to develop, suggest and implement criteria for gathering and publicizing law firm pro bono participation in Bar publications or otherwise acknowledging the leaders in Philadelphia law firm pro bono participation.
