RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PRO BONO TASK FORCE TO AWARD CLE CREDIT FOR PRO BONO REPRESENTATION IN NEW AREAS

WHEREAS, in December 2001, Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Allan Gordon empanelled a Pro Bono Task Force to comprehensively evaluate the need for, and the delivery of, pro bono legal services to the needy, disadvantaged and disenfranchised in Philadelphia;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force, after extensive research and investigation, submitted a Report, including Findings and Recommendations ("the Report") to the Board of Governors on June 27, 2002;

WHEREAS, the Board of Governors, after discussion and upon oral motion made and duly seconded, accepted the Report for comment and study;

WHEREAS, the Pro Bono Task Force recommended that lawyers who accept a pro bono case in a new area of practice be eligible for a one-time award of two additional CLE credits in recognition of their need to devote themselves to considerable preparation and experiential learning in order to provide high-quality representation to indigent clients;/P>

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Philadelphia Bar Association approves, accepts and supports this recommendation and will initiate discussions with the Supreme Court and the Continuing Legal Education Board to discuss, encourage and assist with the enactment of this policy.
