Legal Services Funding in Pa.

As state legislators try to balance the budget for fiscal year 2009-10, funding for legal services is on the chopping block. The Senate version of the budget, embodied in Senate Bill 850, completely eliminates the $3.2 million appropriation for legal services funding proposed by Gov. Edward G. Rendell.

Lawyers know the critical role local legal services organizations play in providing access to justice for the growing number of poor residents in our area. The Philadelphia Bar Association urges its members to contact their state legislators and show their support for adequate funding for legal services.
